This research focuses on investigating the laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) of sulfur-containing barium chalcogenide crystals under nanosecond pulse exposure at a wavelength of 1 μm. The study used the R-on-1 method. The findings demonstrate that the crystals exhibit similar LIDT values around 6.5–7.4 J/cm2. The combination of high LIDT and broad transparency up to 12 μm suggests that sulfur-containing barium chalcogenide crystals are promising candidates for the development of tunable, high-energy radiation sources for various applications, such as medical laser surgery.
