This article is devoted to existing and prospective methods of aluminium production decarbonization in regard to utilization of hydrogen within various corresponding processes. Both primary and secondary aluminium production is covered by the study. Nowadays there is a number of companies, mainly from Europe already using hydrogen for the pilot aluminium decarbonization projects. The others (particularly companies exporting aluminium products to the EU) are likely to introduce the technology in the near future, as it gears towards achieving companies' climate goals and may provide cost savings in terms of carbon border adjustment mechanism in the long term. All in all, the hydrogen technology is one of the most prospective and effective, assisting in decarbonization of hard-to-abate aluminium production processes.
