DESERTIFICATION IN KALMYKIA

The article examines the processes of desertification in the Republic of Kalmykia, one of the most affected by soil degradation and loss of biodiversity in Russia. Both natural and anthropogenic factors affecting the progressive degradation of soils, as well as the economic and social consequences of desertification, are being investigated. The methods of combating desertification aimed at preserving the ecosystem and restoring already affected lands, as well as at sustainable development of the region, are analyzed.
