The main environmental problems of the oil and gas industry are considered in this article. Specifically, how the extraction, transportation and treatment of oil and natural gas effect on the environment. Special attention is paid to oil spills and methods of their elimination. One of the largest oil spills in history is described, namely the causes of its occurrence and the consequences for the environment. This article describes the methods of oil spill response. There are 4 common methods of cleaning up oil spills, such as booms and skimmers, chemical dispersants and in situ burning. The article paper also describes the technologies of their implementation and outlines the environmental disadvantages of these methods. In summary the oil and gas industry heavily pollute the environment. However, there are technologies that help reduce the trace of pollution from the activities of the oil and gas industry.
