This article examines in detail the characteristics of lightweight aggregate concrete in comparison with heavy concrete, as well as its impact on design solutions and characteristics of building materials. It provides a detailed analysis of the mechanism of destruction of lightweight concrete and emphasizes the influence of the type of aggregate, density and structure of the aggregate on shrinkage and creep of the material. Special attention is paid to the advantages of a lower density of lightweight concrete, such as improved thermal insulation, resistance to dynamic loads and high damping coefficients. The importance of these properties is emphasized in the context of the use of lightweight concrete in buildings subject to seismic activity and other operating conditions where reducing the weight of the structure is critical to ensure the safety and efficiency of construction. The discussion also touches on research confirming the benefits of lightweight concrete and its prospects for future applications in various sectors of the construction industry.
