The Oirat Khoshut people in Tibet: features of ruling

The role of Oirat Khoshuts people in thew history of Tibet in the middle 17th - first third of the 18th centuries is known: due to their military support, the Dalai Lama has taken power thus finishing multiyear competition of various sects of the Tibetan Buddhism in the country. However, many aspects related to their dominance in Tibet, e.g. interactions between the Tibetan leaders with Oirat Khohut princes and khans, foreign policy of the Khoshuts, role of religion and religious institutions etc. remain poorly explored. This paper is devoted mainly to the influence of the Khoshuts on political and religious history of Tibet in this period, whose specificity, in turn, influenced Oirat history.
