Research on China's economic cooperation with countries along the “Belt and Road” initiatives

The study is devoted to analyzing China's economic cooperation with countries within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), aimed at strengthening regional integration through infrastructure projects, trade agreements, and cultural exchange. The introduction substantiates the relevance of the BRI as a strategy that combines China's economic goals with its geopolitical ambitions, as well as examining the benefits for participating countries, including infrastructure modernization and an influx of investments. The research methods include the analysis of case studies of projects in Central and Southeast Asia, evaluation of financial mechanisms (loans from Chinese banks, the creation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank), as well as studying the influence of industrial cooperation and special economic zones. The results demonstrate a dual effect of the BRI: on one hand, increased transport connectivity and job creation; on the other, risks of debt dependency, environmental issues, and the strengthening of China's geopolitical influence. It has been found that BRI projects facilitate technological transfer, but they are often accompanied by a lack of transparency in contracts. The discussion underlines the need for a balance between short-term economic gains and long-term risks, including recommendations to strengthen the role of international institutions, to implement “green” standards, and to take into account local socio-political conditions. The conclusion states that the BRI is evolving into a comprehensive strategy that combines infrastructure investments with digitalization and soft power, although the success of the initiative depends on overcoming structural challenges such as debt sustainability and multilateral management.

Исследование посвящено анализу экономического сотрудничества Китая со странами в рамках инициативы «Один пояс, один путь» (BRI), направленной на укрепление региональной интеграции через инфраструктурные проекты, торговые соглашения и культурный обмен. Во введении обоснована актуальность BRI как стратегии, сочетающей экономические цели Китая с геополитическими амбициями, а также рассмотрены выгоды для стран-участниц, включая модернизацию инфраструктуры и приток инвестиций. Методы исследования включают анализ кейсов проектов в Центральной и Юго-Восточной Азии, оценку финансовых механизмов (кредиты китайских банков, создание Азиатского банка инфраструктурных инвестиций), а также изучение влияния промышленной кооперации и особых экономических зон. Результаты демонстрируют двойственный эффект BRI: с одной стороны, рост транспортной связанности и создание рабочих мест, с другой - риски долговой зависимости, экологические проблемы и усиление геополитического влияния Китая. Выявлено, что проекты BRI способствуют технологическому трансферу, но часто сопровождаются слабой прозрачностью контрактов. Обсуждение подчеркивает необходимость баланса между краткосрочными экономическими выгодами и долгосрочными рисками, включая рекомендации по усилению роли международных институтов, внедрению «зеленых» стандартов и учету локальных социально-политических условий. Делается вывод о эволюции BRI в сторону комплексной стратегии, сочетающей инфраструктурные инвестиции с цифровизацией и мягкой силой, однако успех инициативы зависит от преодоления структурных challenges, таких как долговая устойчивость и многостороннее управление.
