The comparison results of inguinal hernioplasty with polypropylene and titanized polypropylene meshes: meta-analysis; [Сетевой метаанализ сравнения результатов хирургического лечения паховых грыж с использованием полипропиленовых и титансодержащих сетчатых имплантатов]

This meta-analysis was conducted to understand the benefits of using titanized polypropylene in inguinal hernioplasty. The postoperative period, the frequency of hernia recurrence with the use of polypropylene and titanized mesh implants were compared. Aim – to compare the results of inguinal hernia repair with using polypropylene and titanium-containing mesh implants. Material and methods. After conducting a systematic (network) study, 22 027 English-language publications were found for the period from 1948 to 2022. After selection, 8179 articles were evaluated. The meta-analysis included 6 randomized clinical trials, which included 1758 patients. The quality of articles included in the meta-analysis was assessed according to the Cochrane risk of bias checklist. Network meta-analysis was performed using the R Statistica program (NetMeta XI package) on the resource “https://crsu.shinyapps.io/MetaInsight/”. The overall effect for dichotomous data was described by a 95% significant interval. Results. A tendency to improve the results of treatment was revealed when using implants of light and ultralight weight and implants containing a biologically inert material – titanium. This was expressed by a lower incidence of chronic pain syndrome in the late postoperative period. There were no significant differences between the studied materials in terms of postoperative complications, hernia recurrence, and reoperations. © 2023 GEOTAR Media. All rights reserved.
