This article analyzes the idealization and reasons behind the emergence of sympathy for antagonists through the example of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's manga Death Note. The antagonist is the protagonist's main adversary, the “villain” in the story. However, a villain's character does not always embody pure evil, as illustrated in Death Note.
