Annotation. Currently, in the clinical practice of an endodontist for root canal treatment, there are several medications with different properties and a number of methods of mechanical treatment and active irrigation that help improve the quality of antiseptic treatment. However, there remains uncertainty about the choice of an effective combination of irrigation solutions, mechanical treatment of the root canal, temporary filling materials and activation methods. Objectives: to review the literature in order to determine the most effective combination of temporary filling materials, irrigation solutions and instruments for root canal cleaning. This analytical analysis and the study of literature sources have shown that the use of rotary endodontic instruments in the treatment process reduces the risk of extrusion of debris into the periapical region, and sodium hypochlorite with chelating agents in combination with instrumental activation can maximally effectively clean the complex root canal system from the lubricated layer and temporary filling materials. A review of the literature, which examined the use of temporary filling materials containing calcium hydrox-ide, showed that viscous-based materials have optimal antibacterial properties and easy extraction from the root canal. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
