"Iron fetters" of sexual dysfunction: clinical management afoot

To date, negative polygenic influence of iron deficiency on reproductive health of female patients, including both general somatic condition deterioration and adverse obstetric and gynecologic outcomes, has been proven. At the same time, sexual dysfunction also showing remarkable prevalence remains a pressing issue of today’s gynecology. However, the “challenge within the challenge” is still sexual dysfunction against the background of iron deficiency. The review discusses pathogenetic associations of two “polarizing” disease entities and presents certain clinical algorithms based on the available domestic and international guidelines. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
