The stresses and strains induced in a thin annular disk by internal pressure, external pressure, and a temperature gradient are found in terms of ordinary integrals under plane stress conditions. The flow theory of plasticity based on the von Mises yield criterion is accepted. The strain solution is facilitated by employing a stress variable as an independent variable instead of the polar radius. An illustrative example demonstrates the effect of the temperature at the inner radius on stress and strain distributions in a disk under outer pressure and in the same disk under inner pressure. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
