Dmitry Danilov's novel "Horizontal Position" is examined in the article from three research positions: through hermeneutical analysis of the text; through a debatable consideration of the novel's problems in the context of contemporary criticism; in the optics of current literary theory - through the correlation of the ideological and artistic originality of the novel with the concept of metamodernism. The result of the research is the conclusion that the genesis of Dmitry Danilov's creative method goes back to modernism, and his novel "Horizontal Position" (2010) can be considered the first metamodern novel of Russian literature, since it fully implements both the philosophical attitudes of metamodern and the principles of metamodern aesthetics.
