The article examines the awards for being in captivity, established in various states. Such phaleronyms (medals, crosses, etc.) can be intended for the following groups of people: prisoners of war, political prisoners, deported and internees, and those who have suffered from the actions of terrorists. These awards are usually confined to specific historical events (as a rule, to the First and Second World Wars), however, the late 20th — early 21st centuries witnessed the emergence of several universal badges. © 2021, Rossiiskaya Akademiya Nauk, Institut Istorii (Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of General Hist.
