In his article the author focuses on evolution and genesis of the concept of marginality in American sociology. As a result the author comes to the conclusion that the concept of marginal personality in America is in a considerable psychological degree: the marginal personality is considered to be a person who feels (experiences) inner split caused by involvement in two or more social realities which are contrary to each other, and the complex of the following social-psychological consequences caused by this bounclary state is: disharmony coss of self-identity.
