This study aims to explore the multiple factors influencing the evolution of China-Russia merchandise trade structure. As two important global economies, China and Russia have undergone significant changes in their trade relations over the past few decades. This paper reveals the main driving factors that have shaped this evolution by analyzing geopolitics, economic policies, market demands, infrastructure, and the global economic environment. Geopolitical factors and economic policy adjustments have played crucial roles in fostering closer economic ties between China and Russia, amidst Western sanctions on Russia. Market demand dynamics, particularly China's need for energy and mineral resources from Russia, coupled with Russian imports of Chinese industrial and consumer goods, highlight a complementary trade relationship. Infrastructure developments, such as the China-Europe Express, have enhanced trade efficiency and scale. The study underscores the need for stability and mutual benefit in trade relations amidst global economic uncertainties and rising protectionism. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the factors shaping China-Russia trade's dynamics, emphasizing the potential for further cooperation and mutual gains in the future.
