The synthesis of 9-benzylidenesilaazaanthracenes has been achieved, and the configurations of their Z- and E-isomers have been established. The reactions of silaazaanthracene in the presence of aromatic aldehydes and bases have been studied; these result in dimerization, oxidation, cleavage of the Si-C bond, and desilylation of the heterocyclic system. © 1988 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
