STEROID AND NONSTEROIDAL ANTI- INFLAMMATORY EYE DROPS FOR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF CYSTOID MACULAR EDEMA FOLLOWING CATARACT SURGERY IN NON- DIABETIC AND DIABETIC PATIENTS

Pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (CME) is a common complication following cataract surgery. Acute CME may resolve spontaneously, but some patients will develop chronic macular edema that affects vision and is difficult to treat. Topical non-steroidal anti- inflammatory agents and corticosteroids are widely used and, when combined, may have a synergistic effect. We discuss clinical efficacy of these treatment modalities in mixed populations.
