This article examines how personal factors influence the way Syrian displaced people perceive and interpret news media. Exposure to severe stress, a significant predictor of mental health problems, is prevalent in conflict-affected countries. Traumatic events affect societal, familial, community, and individual structures that shape refugees' perceptions of media.
