Dielectric enhancement in Poly(4-methyl-1-pentene) due to TiO2, BaTiO3, and BNNP filler particles

The paper discusses the influence of ceramic fillers TiO2, BaTiO3, and BNNP on the dielectric constant of Poly (4-methyl-1-pentene) composite. The structural, morphological, dielectric, electrical, and thermal properties of composite materials are studied. XRD plot confirms the presence of filler in polymer composite and the semicrystalline nature of composite material. FESEM reveals the agglomeration of filler in a polymer matrix, while TGA confirms the high thermal stability of composite material. The nova control dielectric/impedance spectrometer is used to record the material's dielectric performance. The dielectric constant of PMP polymer is enhanced from 2.1 to about 3.5, 4.5 and 5.4 using 10 wt% filler material TiO2, BNNP and BaTiO3, when composite fabricated without coupling agent and it enhanced to 4.5, 3, 5.0 for 10 wt% filler material TiO2, BNNP and BaTiO3, when composite fabricated with coupling agent KH550 respectively. Statistical analysis using paired t-Test and two factor ANOVA showed the significance influence of filler concentration (p < 0.001) and filler type (p < 0.0001) on the resultant dielectric constant of PMP polymer composite. The tan delta value of PMP composite is comparable to that of value of pure PMP that is 0.002 at 100 Hz. The TGA plot showed the thermally stable composite for >230 °C. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
