This article aims to examine the main threats to small and medium enterprises in Latin America in the field of cybersecurity, identify the countries and sectors of the economy most vulnerable to cyber threats, and determine the factors that hinder the effective implementation of cybersecurity measures for this type of enterprise. The key threats in the field of cybersecurity for small and medium businesses are identified and the factors that hinder the most active implementation of cybersecurity programs at both the regional and national levels are analyzed. The situation in countries that suffer the most from cybercrime (Brazil, Mexico, and Chile) and in those that are taking more effective measures to improve the situation are considered. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
