Comparison of dermoscopic picture of the foci of localized scleroderma and tumor-associated localized scleroderma

Background. Digital dermoscopy is actively used in the diagnosis of various diseases of dermatological profile. Non-invasiveness, painlessness and performance rate of this method facilitates the application of dermoscopy at the initial attendance, that optimizes the diagnostic process. Timely routing of patients is extremely important in diseases associated with the oncological process. Objective. To compare the dermoscopic picture of the foci in patients with tumor-associated localized scleroderma and in patients with localized scleroderma. Material and methods. Digital dermoscope was used for investigation of 2 groups of patients. We examined 25 patients with tumor-associated scleroderma: 24 (96%) women and 1 (4%) men. The group with localized scleroderma included 25 patients: 23 (92%) women and 2 (8%) men. Mean age of the examined — 63.7 years. Results. A combination of 3 dermoscopic features has been noted in patients with tumor-associated localized scleroderma. The foci are characterized by less distinct dermoscopic features in the number of 2—3 in dermoscopy of all lesion foci. Conclusion. Patients with tumor-associated localized scleroderma have signs of inflammation in the foci. Further research should be performed to determine the presence of specific dermoscopic signs in this pathology. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
