LegalTech and LegalAI at the Service of the Energy Industry of the Future

In modern socio-economic conditions, topical issues of sustainable development, sustainable economy, resource efficiency, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions continue to arise. In this regard, the issues of the “green” economy and energy transition are being discussed. Today, there are different approaches to the implementation of the “green economy”, and legal regulation varies both in individual countries and in integration groups. International organizations, including the United Nations, offer their visions and develop requirements for the national legislations of member States and TNCs. LegalTech and Legal AI play a key role in shaping the economy of the sixth technological order, characterized by the development of robotics, biotechnology, artificial intelligence and global information networks. LegalTech includes the use of digital technologies to optimize legal processes such as document automation, data analysis, legal risk forecasting and contract management. Legal AI, in turn, involves the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to automate legal tasks, including text analysis, identifying patterns in large amounts of data and providing legal advice. These technologies not only increase the effectiveness of legal practice, but also contribute to the formation of a new strategy of economic activity adapted to the conditions of the sixth technological order. LegalTech can help automate processes related to the development and analysis of regulatory legal acts regulating the energy industry, which will speed up the decision-making process and improve their quality. Legal AI can be used to analyze large amounts of energy-related data, identify trends and predict possible changes in legislation, which will help companies and government agencies adapt to new conditions. This is especially relevant in light of the growing interest in renewable energy sources and the need to develop appropriate legal regulation. This article offers an in-depth analysis of existing universal and regional initiatives for the implementation of Legal Tech and Legal AI technologies in regulating modern energy transition in the understanding of the economy of the sixth technological order. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
