INDIA'S COOPERATION WITH THE EAEU AND THE SCO

Thearticle deals with theinteraction between theRepublic of India (RI) and themain Eurasian structures that operate in thespace of theformer Soviet Union-theEurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and theShanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). With theemergence of apolycentric world order, marked, among other things, by theentry into theinternational arena of states that used to be categorized as developing, thestudy of their new role in thepolitical, economic, and military-political spheres is of particular relevance. In this regard, identification of peculiarities of India's interaction with theSCO and theEAEU is of specific importance in determining therole of India as alarge state and an influential player both in theAsian region and in theworld. Various aspects of India's foreign policy activities at thehistorical and contemporary stages, including relations with Russia, have already received quite detailed coverage in Russian and foreign academic literature. Along with theconsideration of individual aspects of India's cooperation with theSCO, much attention is paid by IR and Oriental Studies researchers to India's uneasy relations with China and Pakistan. At thesame time, theproblem of India's participation in theimplementation of Eurasian integration projects within theSCO and, moreover, theEAEU demands more attention. This has determined theaim of this article, which has several objectives: to analyze main historical stages of India's interaction with Russia and theUSSR; to study India's foreign policy priorities in dealing with theSCO and EAEU; to reveal theinfluence of India, China, and Pakistan on theSCO activities and interstate relations within this organization; to determine India's political-strategic, trade, and economic preferences in theEurasian space. Therelations with India, which is turning into new Asian giant, may in thefuture contribute to theestablishment of both theSCO and theEAEU as influential world centers. TheIndian participation may help in activating their internal and external potential, which will objectively contribute to amore dynamic formation of anew Greater Eurasia.
