Chemical Transformations of Indenoquinolines and Indenoquinoxalines

Oxidation, nitration, cyanoethylation, and condensation with aromatic aldehydes of indeno[1,2-b]-and indeno[1,2-g]quinolines occur at the indene fragment. The stereochemistry of (Z)- and (E)-10-arylmethyleneindeno[1,2-g]quinolines is discussed.
