The circulation of the waters of the World Ocean determines the exchange of the amount of matter, heat and mechanical energy between the ocean and the atmosphere, surface and deep, tropical and polar waters. Sea currents carry large masses of water from one area to another, often to very remote areas. Currents violate the latitudinal zonality in the distribution of temperature and that is why they have a huge impact on the climate.
